People living in the forest fringe areas in Orissa mostly survive on subsistence agriculture and forest gathering with little of cash income from selling of non-timber forest produce through local traders (called middle men). The present study aimed to empower the local community to protect, manage and market the produce in a value added form. This report describes the study concerned with marketing of sal leaves. The aim was to find if local communities can run small scale enterprise for making of plates and cups from sal leaves and sell that in the open market with profit rather than dispose sal leaves in bundles to middle man at their doorsteps. The project supported buying of the equipment and limited training in plate and cup making and then let the community run the enterprise. The experience was positive showing that the products made by community were popular in the market and fetched good prices at the rates justifying the investments.Keywords

With reference to India, two main streams of forestry educations are presented, viz. Government run Academy and Colleges and Forestry Departments at the Agricultural Universities and their potentials and limitations described. Finally, international trend in forestry education is presented and important inference regarding forestry education and training in India is drawn.Keywords

The observed epidemiology of refractive errors seen over a generation, fuelled by environmental changes namely stress and time spent in education, wherein the student population group requires considerable attention.This studies prevalence rates of various refractive errors occurring among college students of North India and to comparatively evaluate with respect to education stream, gender, religion and type of diet, 1200 (400 medical, 400 engineering and 400 arts) students aged 17-22 years from different colleges were interviewed regarding their diet, religion, and education stream, personal and family history of any medical or ocular disease. Visual acuity of all the students was assessed by Snellen and Jaegers charts and refractive errors were measured by cycloplegic refraction. The prevalence rates and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism were calculated. Results were analyzed by chi2 test and P values of less than 0.05 were considered significant. It was found that the prevalence of refractive errors varies with gender and education stream, but not with religion and type of diet. Myopia was most prevalent refractive error in college students, 37.6% students have myopia, 3.58% astigmatism and 0.33 % hyperopia. Also statistically significantly higher prevalence of myopia was found in medical students as compared to other education streams (Myopia was significantly higher in medical (71.25%) as compared to engineering (28.25%)&arts students (13.5%)).No significant difference of myopia prevalence was found with respect to gender, religion or type of diet. Astigmatic prevalence was not significantly different in medical and engineering students but both medical and engineering students have significantly higher astigmatic prevalence as compared to arts students. Astigmatism was also significantly higher in females as compared to males. Highest myopia prevalence in medical students justifies that deteriorating vision is an occupational hazard for medical students.Keywords

Heat transfer in hydromagnetic flow of electrically conducting, viscous, incompressible fluid through a circular pipe of uniform width filled with porous material under the influence of periodically varying pressure gradient and wall slip condition is investigated. The governing equation is solved by using the Bessel function. The solution for the velocity and the temperature profiles are obtained and evaluated numerically. The results have been expressed graphically to bring out the effects of various parameters enter in the governing equation.Keywords

Background: Yellow oleander is an ornamental plant that is common throughout tropics. Ingestion of its seeds results in a clinical picture similar to that of digoxin overdose.Objective: To study the clinical profile of patients ingesting yellow oleander seeds and to evaluate cardiac toxicity in them.
Material and Methods: 50 patients with history of yellow oleander ingestion who were admitted in Department of Medicine, Shyam Shah Medical College and associated Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Rewa were studied prospectively in the duration May 2009 to September 2011. Cardiac toxicity was determined by electrocardiography and echocardiography.
Results: Majority (76%) patients were females and from low socioeconomic strata. Most of patients (52%) were young in the age group 21-30 years. Vomiting was most common symptom. We observed mortality rate of 2%. The number of seeds swallowed varied from 1 to 10 and there was no simple correlation between number of seeds ingested and clinical outcome. Sinus bradycardia was most common (56%) ECG abnormality. SA block and AV block were observed in 12% and 28% cases respectively. ST-T changes were present in 60% of cases. Most of these ECG changes were reversible. Echocardiography revealed diastolic dysfunction in 20% cases.
Conclusion: The cardiac toxicity of yellow oleander poisoning was usually in the form of conduction defects affecting the sinus or AV node and ST-T changes. Most of these ECG abnormalities were reversible. Arrhythmias typical of digitalis toxicity were rare while arrhythmias rare with digitalis toxicity (Mobitz type 2 AV block) were common. Diastolic dysfunction was most common echocardiographic abnormality.

Background: Infertility is defined as failure to conceive within one or more years of regular unprotected coitus. The infertility state is dependent on the female factor as well as masculine factor; an altered masculine factor is designated when any cause or causes of infertility reside in the male. The masculine factor as a cause of infertility is present in 40-50% of cases hence the importance of an integral evaluation of the male alterations and its fertility.
Objectives: The present study aims to assess the seminal patterns of male partners of 100 infertile couples for various parameters and their possible contribution to infertility.
Material and Methods: The present study was conducted on male partners of 100 infertile couples who were referred by Gynecology and Obstetric department to Pathology Department, Government Medical College, Patiala for semen examination. The semen was collected by masturbation in all cases in a clean dry detergent free container. After liquefaction and mixing, basic analysis was done which includes volume, viscosity, pH, spermatozoal concentration, motility and morphology. Data was evaluated by means of chi-square test.
Results: Of 100 seminogram, 43% showed alterations in the seminal indexes; with asthenospermia in 39.5%, Oligoasthenospermia in 30.2%, Oligospermia in 16.2%, and Azoospermia in 13.9%.
Conclusion: Male factors were mostly responsible as a cause of infertility. Asthenospermia was the most common type of semen defect present in these infertile males. Most of the males with semen defect were of age group >30yrs. Incidence of semen defect among males increased with duration of infertility.

An analysis of an unsteady free convective flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid past an infinite hot vertical porous plate in slip flow regime has been carried out under the following assumptions: (i)the suction velocity normal to the plate is constant, (ii) the plate temperature is spanwise cosinusoidal fluctuating with time, (iii) the difference between the temperature of the plate and the free stream is moderately large causing free convection currents and (iv) the transversely applied magnetic field and magnetic Reynold number are really small and, hence, the induced magnetic field is negligible. The governing equations have been solved by adopting complex variable notations and the expressions for velocity and temperature fields obtained. The transient velocity, temperature, and amplitude the shear stress and heat transfer at the plate have been discussed.Keywords

International Journal of Technology, Vol 6, No 2 (2016), Pagination: 215-222Abstract
The paper attempt to investigate the effect of injection/suction on the flow of electrically conducting fluid through a porous channel filled with porous material. A magnetic field of uniform strength is applied perpendicular to the plane of the porous channel. The effect of heat radiation, heat source and chemical reaction has been taken into consideration. The governing equations are solved analytically by using complex variable notation. The expressions for velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction coefficient, rate of heat transfer and rate of mass transfer have been obtained. The effect of various parameters entering the governing equation have been evaluated numerically and expressed graphically and in tabular form. A detailed discussion is given in the result and discussion section of the research paper.- On Heat and Mass Transfer in Chemically Reacting and Radiating Viscoelastic MHD Flow through Porous Medium in Vertical Channel
